5-minute Chocolate Mug Cake

Craving cake, or just in need of a chocolate fix? Well we’ve got just the thing – a recipe for a deliciously chocolatey cake that takes just 5 minutes to make! It’s quick and easy, all you need is a large (microwave proof) mug, mixing spoon, microwave (all available Wilko!) and the ingredients listed below. Serves 1

Top tip: For a triply chocolatey treat, why not melt some white chocolate and drizzle over the top of your cake?

Original Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp self-raising flour
  • 4 tbsp caster sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 drops of vanilla flavouring
  • 3 tbsp chocolate chips (optional – for serious chocoholics!!)
  • 1 egg

Method

  1. Put the flour, sugar and cocoa powder into your mug and mix well.
  2. Add the milk and sunflower oil and mix again.
  3. Crack the egg into your mug, make sure you don’t get any bits of shell!
  4. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and the vanilla flavouring.
  5. Give the chocolatey mixture a final mix, making sure there are no bits hiding at the bottom. Take care when doing this as your mug will be quite full!
  6. Put your mug into the microwave and cook the mixture for 3 minutes on high. Don’t panic if the cake starts to rise above the top of the mug – this means your cake is nearly ready!
  7. When the timer is finished, remove the mug from the microwave. Take care as it will be very hot.
  8. Leave your cake to cool slightly, then dig in!
